Questions About Our Walking Trails
Everything you need to know about exploring Ross Castle and Lough Leane
Our Ross Castle Shore Path is about 3km and takes around 90 minutes at a gentle pace, with several rest spots along the way. The full Lough Leane Scenic Circuit is longer at 7km, typically done over 4 hours with breaks for views and refreshments. We always match the pace to the group.
Not at all. Our walks are specifically designed for people who want to enjoy the outdoors without pushing themselves. We keep a steady pace and there's no rush — if you need to take it slower or sit for a bit, that's perfectly fine. Most of our guests are retirees who just want a pleasant walk with good company.
The shore path is mostly well-maintained gravel and grass with some paved sections near the castle. You'll want sturdy walking shoes or boots, especially if it's been rainy, but it's nothing too demanding. We avoid the rougher trails — accessibility is key for us.
Our guides share the real history — how the castle was built in the 15th century, its role during Irish rebellions, and stories about the families who lived there. We also talk about the landscape, wildlife around Lough Leane, and local folklore. It's conversational, not like a textbook lecture.
Comfortable walking shoes, a light jacket (Irish weather changes quickly), and a small backpack with water are really all you need. We recommend bringing a camera if you like photography — the views across the lough are stunning, especially in late afternoon light.
Yes, we arrange private group walks regularly. Whether it's friends, family, or a local club outing, we can tailor the route and pace to suit your group. Just get in touch and we'll sort out the details.
